Hedda Gabler

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This assignment was part of the Directing Modern Plays course, to work in conjunction with a Modern Plays Seminar.  Students were instructed to select a play by Henrik Ibsen from a predetermined list (Hedda Gabler, Lady from the Sea, Ghosts, or An Enemy of the People), from which to cut a scene of 15-20 minutes.  The assignment was designed to incorporate script analysis techniques from Francis Hodge to mount a realistic production set in the original time period.

The scene was performed in a modified thrust space and featured stylistically appropriate direction, design, costumes, lighting, and properties without a budget.  Each director cast their scene form the available undergraduate students at Baylor University, and was allotted 18 rehearsals that could not exceed two hours over a span of three weeks.
